This October, legendary Finnish guitarist and songwriter Timo Tolkki is coming to Budapest. The creator of numerous iconic power metal songs will be joined by a hand-picked group of musicians to perform the greatest classics of his former band, Stratovarius, at Analog Music Hall on October 26.
Born in Finland in 1966, Timo Tolkki began playing guitar at an early age and soon developed his distinctive style, combining the speed and precision of heavy metal with classical influences. He joined Stratovarius shortly after the band’s formation in 1984 and quickly became its main creative force, playing a defining role as guitarist, songwriter, producer and musical director.
During the band’s landmark period in the 1990s and early 2000s, Tolkki wrote and produced many of Stratovarius’ best-known songs, including “Black Diamond,” “Hunting High and Low,” “Forever” and “The Kiss of Judas.”
Through the songs he wrote as a member of Stratovarius, Timo played a major role in developing the melodic and symphonic style that would later become one of the defining sounds of European power metal. The band achieved international success, earned several gold records in Finland and also received a Finnish Grammy Award.
After leaving the band in 2008, Tolkki continued his musical career with projects such as Revolution Renaissance, Symfonia and Avalon, while also releasing solo albums. As part of his tour launching this autumn, he is returning to the stage with a show dedicated to the classic Stratovarius repertoire, with songs such as “Hunting High and Low,” “Paradise,” “Eagleheart,” “Visions,” “Father Time,” “Forever” and “Black Diamond” expected to feature in the set.
These timeless songs will also be brought back to life by a new generation of musicians. Joining Timo Tolkki on stage will be the versatile vocalist Titta Tani, who has performed in a number of line-ups, including alongside David Ellefson and Michael Angelo Batio; bassist Francesco Caporaletti and drummer Alessio Palizzi, a rhythm section also known from several tours, including performances with Tim “Ripper” Owens; as well as keyboardist Giuseppe Cioffi.
