After his sold-out 2025 concert, the Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen will once again take the stage at Budapest’s MOM Kult this year. The musician, who recently released a live recording from his 40th anniversary tour, is preparing for July 24 with a “best of” setlist, insane solos, and rule-breaking improvisations.

Yngwie Malmsteen has had a busy year: the guitarist, who has been building his solo career since 1984, has been touring the world with a jubilee tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of his career. As part of this tour, the live album Tokyo Live, released in spring 2025, was recorded on May 11, 2024, at the Zepp DiverCity venue in Tokyo. The release is a nearly 100-minute retrospective featuring around 30 tracks, including early classics (Rising Force, Far Beyond the Sun, Black Star), more recent compositions (from the Parabellum era), as well as classical music adaptations. The album summarizes Malmsteen’s entire career and delivers an intense, virtuosity-driven snapshot of everything the Swedish shred master is known for. A live version of “Rising Force” from the new release can be viewed here:

In a recent statement, Malmsteen once again emphasized that he has consistently defined himself as a solo artist since 1984, and interprets his entire body of work within that framework. He elaborated on this in a strongly worded announcement, in which he clearly distanced himself from the singers who had previously collaborated on his albums. According to his position, these collaborations do not confer authorship or ownership rights, nor do they establish any independent “legacy.” His criticism was specifically directed at those who later attempt to organize concerts or build their own careers by referencing his name, songs, and albums, even though the substantive creative work was in Malmsteen’s hands.

On July 24, all spotlights will once again be on Yngwie at MOMKult: tickets for the concert will be available from March 20 at 3 PM.
